Dean of Library Services, David Schuster

I am pleased to announce that David Schuster will join Chattanooga State on Monday, September 14th, as our new Dean of Library Services. Please join me in welcoming David to Chattanooga State and the Academic Affairs leadership team.

David has served in academic librarianship for more than 14 years and brings extensive experience in collaboration, innovation, and strategic leadership. Most recently, at Binghamton University, part of the State University of New York (SUNY), he provided leadership across multiple areas of the University Libraries, overseeing teams, budgets, technology initiatives, and services supporting research, teaching, learning, and student success. Throughout his career, David has focused on building partnerships and creating services and spaces that respond to the evolving needs of students and faculty.

His work has included developing digital scholarship and emerging technology initiatives and helping lead the selection and implementation of a shared library services platform across 64 SUNY libraries. He holds a Master’s degree in Library Science and an MBA.

David’s leadership philosophy is grounded in service, transparency, trust, and collaboration. He was particularly drawn to Chattanooga State’s commitment to student success and believes the library should be a welcoming and inclusive place where students can find the resources, technology, expertise, and support they need to succeed.

As higher education continues to evolve, David is excited about the opportunities presented by artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, and the expanding role of libraries in teaching and learning.

As Dean of Library Services, he looks forward to listening, learning, and collaborating with students, faculty, and staff to build on the library’s strengths and ensure it remains an innovative and essential partner in the mission of Chattanooga State Community College.
