The Truth is a Cave in the Black Mountains by Neil Gaiman

Looking for a ghostly tale this October? The Truth is a Cave in the Black Mountains: A Tale of Travel and Darkness with Pictures of All Kinds by Neil Gaiman is a chilling tale of revenge. Located in our Graphic Novel section, the illustrations are perfectly matched with Gaiman's storytelling style.

Our narrator is seeking a guide to take him on a journey to the Misty Isle so that he can retrieve gold from an abandoned cave. And our narrator doesn't just want any guide, he wants a man named Calum MacInnes. MacInnes agrees to take him, all the while telling him he's a fool to take the gold because all who enter the cave leave a bit of their soul behind. During their journey, they swap stories about their lives and the men they've murdered. MacInnes admits that he entered the cave as young man and it has taken a toll of him. Both men are harboring plans of sabotage, but the narrator's motivations are such that he'd willingly risk his soul to make the journey.
