National Library Week 2025 – Drawn to the Library

By April Shaw

What a meaningful year to celebrate libraries! On April 6 -12, 2025, we once again observe National Library Week, an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities.

This year’s theme is “Drawn to the Library.” Show your love and support for your local libraries and library staff by sharing what draws you to libraries.

What Is the Draw of Libraries?

Draw #1: Extensive resources! April 7th is National Right to Read Day. Libraries grant access to a multitude of resources—from books and tools to even anatomy models and recording studios! Whether you are an avid reader or a casual visitor, everyone has the right to fair use of resources. For more information about this, visit the Unite Against Book Bans website.

Draw #2: Library staff! April 8th is National Library Workers Day. Here at KLIC, our amazing staff are a huge draw! We are grateful for our librarians and library workers who go above and beyond to serve the needs of our campus and community!

Draw #3: Commitment to engagement! On April 9th, we celebrate National Library Outreach Day. Libraries create engagement in the community! They are also outlets for patrons to express their creativity.

Raina Telgemeier and Scott McCloud—the 2025 Honorary Chairs—collaborated on The Cartoonist’s Cluba graphic novel that illustrates the creative power of artists, writers, and librarians working in unison. What a great example of a creative service that libraries provide beyond books!

Draw #4: Facilitators of change! Libraries are active leaders in the communities we serve. As much as we facilitate change in our communities, we hope to inspire our patrons to action. As libraries take on mounting challenges, we look to you—our patrons and fellow library staff—to help lead the charge against them!

April 10th is Take Action for Libraries Day. The American Library Association has created strategy guides for how we can show support for our libraries. For more information, visit ilovelibraries.org.

Why Are You Drawn to Libraries?

It’s time to weigh in! All this week, KLIC staff will provide creative opportunities for you to share your “draw.” Stop by and grab a copy of the “What’s the Draw?” graphic. We would love to hear what draws you to our library!
