KLIC Celebrates Black History Month

Sunday was the official start of Black History Month. Black History Month is intended to raise awareness and increase education about the contributions and political struggles of Black Americans. Join the Kolwyck Library and Information Commons as we celebrate Black History Month! The library has lots of inspiring books about African Americans. Check out our display at the entrance of the library to learn about some of these amazing people. The library will have a different display each week featuring entertainers, athletes, authors and poetry, ending the month with the civil rights movement and veterans.

The first week we will feature African Americans in the entertainment industry. This includes actors/actresses, musicians, singers, and dancers.

The second week will feature African American athletes.

The third week will feature African American authors, biographies and poetry.

The fourth week will feature the history of the civil rights movement, inventors and African Americans in the military.

Visit Chattanooga State Library on Facebook to join in on the fun! Contest Rules: The library will post a black history trivia question daily. If you are the first to answer correctly, your name will be entered in a drawing at the end of the week for a chance to win a $20 Wal-Mart Gift Card. You must be a current student to claim the prize.

Thanks to Mike Royal and his employees at Chattanooga's Showtime Event Rentals for sponsoring the prizes for our students.
