Sculpture book display connected to DHAC Shapeshifting exhibit

Context note: In August 2025, a change was announced for the thematic display area near the entrance of the library. The new display initiative focused on display collaborations and intentional exhibits that highlight the intersection of academic affairs and student life.

The Denise Heinly Art Center at Chattanooga State currently has the exhibit "Shapeshifting" on display until February 26, 2026. In alignment with the refocused thematic display initiative of August 2025,  our book display focuses on sculptures as a tie-in to Raymond Padron's Shapeshifting exhibit.

The blue down vest pictured from the DHAC announcement is a carved and painted basswood. There are several carved and painted basswood in the exhibit. In addition to the vest, there's a dress shirt, a holster, a leather jacket, and even a tube sock.

The artist statement about the exhibit mentions the relationship between the traditional and improvisation and the roles we learn from that relationship. The statement mentions the tension between ideal, expected, and lived experience. Check out this amazing exhibit of wood sculptures at the DHAC until February 26, 2026.

The sculpture-related books on display at the library can be checked out and enjoyed.

Twenty Years of the Kolwyck Library Blog!

On October 12, 2005, librarian Dwight Hunter posted the first post on the Kolwyck Library Blog!

This week we have a temporary display celebrating 20 years of the library blog. When discussing the possibilities of online communications presence back in 2005, we knew we wanted to create our own stories about what we were doing in the library. After researching possible platforms, we decided on the blog as way to create our own content, promote library services, and to have an online communication tool that could be followed or be linked out to other platforms.

In August 2025, a change was announced for the thematic display area near the entrance of the library. The new display initiative focused on display collaborations and intentional exhibits that highlight the intersection of academic affairs and student life. One of the suggested highlights was staff or faculty book recommendations.

The January 2026 display is a faculty spotlight display from Dr. Jennifer Smith.

 Information Literacy eLearn Course

The Information Literacy and Instruction (ILI) Team is excited to announce the launch of a new Information Literacy eLearn course. This ungraded, non-credit course is open to all and can be found in the eLearn Discover tab on your eLearn homepage. Feel free to explore on your own or register for an upcoming CTL workshop where we will demonstrate the tool and highlight some ways we might collaborate to bring this ISLO more fully into every division on campus. Reach out to Sara Beth Coffman (sara.coffman@chattanoogastate.edu) for more information.

Display Collaboration

Reminder that the Library invites you and your students to showcase your hard work, creativity, and accomplishments through our new display initiative.

This academic year, we are shifting from general-themed displays to more intentional exhibits that highlight the intersection of academic affairs and student life. Our goal is to celebrate and promote the vibrant intellectual and creative community at Chattanooga State.

We would love to feature content from across campus, such as:

  • Student projects and creative work
  • Staff or faculty book recommendations by department or division
  • Student organization highlights, including their mission or reading lists
  • Interdisciplinary reading themes
  • Complementary/supplementary course materials

This list is just a starting point—we welcome your ideas and would be happy to collaborate. Feel free to contact me directly via the information listed below or contact your library liaison

Academic Success Center Construction

Heads up! Construction on the Academic Success Center (2nd floor of the IMC) is happening throughout the spring semester. That means you might hear some construction noise in parts of the Library from time to time.

If the noise gets distracting, we’ve got headsets and earplugs available, plus an anonymous way to report noise concerns. Looking for a quieter spot? The Library’s Quiet Zone (behind the bookshelves) isn’t directly under the construction and may be a better place to focus.

If you’re having trouble finding a good study space or need help dealing with the noise, stop by the desk and chat with us — we’re here to help.

You Have Support!

Are you struggling to keep up with the demands of life while trying to succeed in school? You are not alone.

Our incredible Student Support Center provides resources and information to assist you with housing, food, and other forms of help when you need them most.

Educate yourself, pick up the available literature, and learn how you can be supported during difficult times.
