1. Do you have any pets?
Yes, I have a cat. Her name is Boots in reference to her “white socks” on her hind legs (she has the tuxedo pattern). We adopted her at four weeks old, about 11 and a half years ago. I applaud the Humane Educational Society of Chattanooga along with PetSmart in their efforts to showcase and make available cats and dogs that need homes. I believe in their spaying and neutering program.
2. Coke or Pepsi?
Coke. Don’t things go better with it?
3. What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
For the students and fellow staff workers, it’s seeing the looks on their faces and knowing how much they appreciate you when you help them solve a problem.
4. Spring, Summer, Winter or Fall?
Winter: Love to see the snow.
5. How do you spend a normal day off?
Catching up with and watching my backlog of DVR recordings of movies, documentaries, and my favorite realty show, “Shark Tank.” I need more recording space on my DVR.
6. What was the last job you had before coming to Chatt State?
I worked for a local advertising agency that placed kiosks at scenic attractions, hotels and rest stops throughout Tennessee. These computer-based kiosks would allow tourists to navigate and print out coupons and directions to vacation spots using a touch screen (This was 1985, the company being way ahead of its time in the use of touch screen technology). My job as data entry clerk was to update the data in the computers’ hard drives.
7. If you could be an animal for a day, what would it be?
A bird. I’ve dreamt a few times of flying, traveling anywhere over an area at lightning speed, only to wake up realizing I’m still on the ground (or in bed), sadly disappointed.
8. What change were you most excited to see after the library renovation?
I must list two changes. I was excited to see the redesigned area for extra computers with the latest technology all in one space. I was also excited to see the study and conference rooms equipped with technology-enhanced workware tables and large screen monitors.
9. What’s the biggest change you’ve seen at Chatt State since you started working here?
I would have to say the biggest change involves three major expansions: The A.R. Kolwyck Library as part of the IMC; The CBIH (Center for Business, Industry and Health) Building; and the HSC (Health Science Center) Building.
10. What’s something readers probably don’t know about you?
I started an online used bookstore as a third-party seller on Amazon.com. It lasted from 2001 to 2010. Four of those years generated enough profits to more than pay for my car during that time.
