LOL@your library
That is the theme for this year's Teen Read Week, October 14-20, and we encourage everyone, not just teens, to celebrate the pleasure, escape, and just plain fun of reading a good book. As a way of involving the teens on our campus, the Middle College High School students have given us their recommendations for books they enjoyed. Come by the library any time to see a display of their favorites along with a few others that we know have timeless appeal.
On Friday, October 19 at 2:00, several students from Angela Karnes' English classes will present a book talk in the library to discuss their selections. Take a few minutes to come and listen to some lively discussion and laughter about books that have made an impression on them--from Mr. Popper's Penguins to Dante's Inferno.

Red Moon at Sharpsburg by Rosemary Wells (at public library, Y Wel). 14-year old India Moody wants more out of life than just reading scripture. She hopes to study medicine or chemistry. But in Civil War Virginia, she is dreaming beyond herself. Yet, as she realizes the horror of war and works along side Emory Trimble, she does not give up her hope to go to Ohio and attend Oberlin College. This novel is very sobering but India has lots of pride and never gives up. The story never lets up in spite of accurately describing the hopelessness the South faced during the War. Recommended for fans of historical stories and for plucky heroines.
