The Library of Your Future
How do you envision the library in your future? Will you access information entirely by remote login? Will you intentionally seek out a library building or room in order to commune with others? What would you like the ideal library to be? Will there even be a library? Dare we ask that question?
As library workers and planners, we continuously ask ourselves what we think our patrons need in this space and time. Now we would like to ask you!
Tell us what you envision the perfect library to be for you. Comment on this blog with a description of what you want in a library. Maybe you will look around one day and see that your wishes have been granted.

Library as Art Gallery
We are fortunate to have on display a collection of paintings for sale by local artist Robin Howe Townsend. Ms. Townsend's works have been described as "nostalgic impressionism,...abstract intellectualism,...and whimsical collages."
She enjoys the "play" in some of her subjects--a Paris street scene, Cotswold cottages, and wooded landscapes, but she expresses a serious side in works that depict a worn path at sunset, contemplative women, or quiet surroundings.
You may have seen her brightly colored poster print of Chattanooga in local shops, and you can purchase it and her other works at her website Art Without Boundaries: the art of Robin Howe Townsend.
She will also take commissions if you have a favorite location or subject you would like depicted. Or if your business or organization needs a fundraiser, she will create a piece specifically for your event.
The paintings that are on display in the library are for sale, and a portion of the sale price will be donated to the library. Please come by and enjoy the exhibit which will be on display for about a month.

LOL@your library
That is the theme for this year's Teen Read Week, October 14-20, and we encourage everyone, not just teens, to celebrate the pleasure, escape, and just plain fun of reading a good book. As a way of involving the teens on our campus, the Middle College High School students have given us their recommendations for books they enjoyed. Come by the library any time to see a display of their favorites along with a few others that we know have timeless appeal.
On Friday, October 19 at 2:00, several students from Angela Karnes' English classes will present a book talk in the library to discuss their selections. Take a few minutes to come and listen to some lively discussion and laughter about books that have made an impression on them--from Mr. Popper's Penguins to Dante's Inferno.
Find out more about Teen Read Week, take a survey, vote for the best books, and see what other books have been favorites over the years.
We invite you to post a comment to this blog entry and tell us your recommendation for a great read!

Oprah's Book Club Pick!
Oprah Winfrey, queen of the world's book club, has chosen her next selection. Drum roll, please! Her choice this time is Gabriel Garcia's Marquez's incomparable story Love in the Time of Cholera.
OR
Come to the library to borrow our copy--first come, first served, though--so hurry in before someone beats you to it.
OR
Read one of this author's other novels or short story collections. We have those, too.
OR
Visit the Chattanooga Hamilton Co. Bicentennial Library where you will find 6 copies located at various brances around town.
But don't wait too long. Oprah's choices are well worth your time!
